PADI Dive Master Training, Stage One
21 days of summer vacation
20 days of intensive dive training
Since becoming a Free Diver at 15, I trained progressively to become a Rescue Diver
in Hengchun, Green Island, Xiaoliuqiu, and Gili Trawangan, Indonesia
Training in Cairns to become a Dive Master
A full month’s worth of training compressed into 20 days.
This marks the beginning of my very first encounter with the Great Barrier Reef.
From consumer to provider - officially becoming a Dive Master.
The first step of a diving profession
The ocean is a feast of experience design.
Diving is the one true form of total immersion.
My Austrian instructor once said: How should a first experience be shaped, and how should it be given?
As a diving instructor,
the most pure and moving part of this work is not what you glimpse of the unknown underwater, nor the money professional skill can earn; it’s that you become a pivotal provider of someone’s life transformation.
Every diver has a first time.
And somehow, you get to be there - present — at the birth of a diver.
Your expertise is built on giving, on creating, on providing.
You become the guide to what is, in this world, the most perfect environment (my personal, ocean-biased opinion).
In this world,
the people who can turn what they love — what they’re gifted at
into nourishment for a life
that is inborn. That is talent. That is born with.
And my instructor told me I carry that kind of light.
May the ocean always be with you, and with me.
